It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Michael Anderson, a beloved son, devoted father, loving husband, and cherished friend. John left this world peacefully on October 15, 2023, at the age of 75, surrounded by his family.
Born on March 12, 1948, in Springfield, Illinois, John was the eldest son of Margaret and Robert Anderson. From a young age, he was known for his kind heart, quick wit, and unwavering sense of responsibility. John carried these traits throughout his life, touching the lives of everyone he met.
John was a dedicated family man. He married the love of his life, Susan, in 1972, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. As a father to his two children, Emily and David, John was a constant source of guidance, support, and encouragement. He took immense pride in his family and was always their biggest cheerleader.
A man of many talents, John had a successful career as a civil engineer, where his meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving skills earned him the respect of his colleagues. Beyond his professional life, John was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hiking, and camping. He had a passion for storytelling and could often be found sharing tales of his adventures with anyone who would listen.
John’s warm smile and generous spirit made him a friend to many. He had a unique ability to make people feel seen and valued, and his presence brought comfort and joy to those around him. Whether it was lending a helping hand, offering sage advice, or simply sharing a laugh, John had a way of making the world a better place.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Susan; his children, Emily (Mark) and David (Sarah); his grandchildren, Lily, Jack, and Noah; his siblings, Mary and Thomas; and countless friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Robert, and his brother, James.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on October 21, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Grace Community Church, 123 Main Street, Springfield, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice in John’s memory.
John’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, John. You were a light in our lives, and your memory will forever shine brightly.
