Laser engraving etches photographs, portraits, scenery and artwork directly into polished black granite, with detail a sand-carved stone can’t hold. New Century Headstones laser-engraves flat grave markers at our own shops in Colton, Montebello and Anaheim, priced by size from $720 with engraving and delivery within 75 miles included. Design yours online or with our staff.
The laser removes the polished surface of the granite in a fine pattern, exposing the lighter stone underneath. Dark areas stay polished, light areas are etched, and the contrast between them is what makes a photograph or a landscape read clearly on the stone. Because the image depends on that contrast, laser engraving is only done on black granite. The etching is cut into the granite itself, so it lasts as long as the stone.
Laser markers are priced by size and cut, not by the design. A 20″×10″ single marker starts at $720; a 36″×18″ companion marker is $1,375 straight cut, up to $1,750 with a bevel cut. Every price includes the granite, the laser engraving of the design you build, and free delivery to any cemetery within 75 miles of our shops. Financing is available through Affirm. See the full price table on our headstone prices page.
Traditional sand-carved markers hold deep, clean lettering and can take color fill. Laser markers hold photographs and fine detail but only on black granite and without color. Most families choose laser when they want a photo or a scene on the stone, and traditional when they want classic lettering or a colored granite. Both are flat markers that sit flush with the lawn, which is what most cemeteries in Riverside, Los Angeles and Orange County require in their lawn sections.

The engraving is included in the marker price. Our laser engraved flat granite markers run $720 to $1,750 depending on size and cut, with delivery within 75 miles included.
The image is etched into the granite itself rather than painted or applied on top, so it lasts as long as the stone. Black granite is used because its polished surface holds the contrast the etching depends on.
No. Laser engraving only shows clearly on black granite, because the etched areas read as light gray against the polished black surface. Colored granites are available for traditional sand-carved markers.
Yes. Upload the photo in the online designer or bring it to any of our shops, and we etch it photo-realistically into the stone.
Our laser markers are flat black granite markers in standard sizes, which is what most Southern California cemeteries require in their lawn sections. Check your cemetery’s size and material rules before ordering; the cemetery is required by law to accept a marker from an outside dealer that meets its specifications.
